Matt Turowski

Violin - Cello - Bass - Piano - Guitar - Ukelele

Matt attended Rowan University and graduate classes at William Paterson University before moving to New York City to perform professionally. His professional experience includes performances at the Kimmel Center, Keswick Theater, Chris' jazz cafe as well as radio appearances on WRTI in Philadelphia and WBGO in New York City. His goal as a teacher is to instill a sense of musical independence in his students by working on transferable skills that will eventually allow students to figure out new and difficult music independently.

“I assist students in building problem-solving strategies for dealing with new material. With the help of these strategies, when a student encounters a new piece of music that they want to play, they can use their past musical experiences to help them recognize what parts of a piece they can already play, what parts they need to work on and how to go about working on troublesome material. I believe the problem-solving skills learned through this process are transferable to other subject areas and help student achievement in all areas of life.”

Matt teaches violin, cello, and bass (electric and double bass), as well as piano, guitar, and ukulele. For pre-band and pre-orchestra students, he offers a musicianship course in which students learn songs, with rhythms and harmonies, and apply them to several instruments including ukulele, piano, and percussion.
