Kaylé Brecher (Kay-La BrecKer) is a recording artist/performer with six acclaimed CDs receiving airplay across the US, Europe, Australia, South America, Russia, and the Philippines, and a career that has included concerts, festivals, live radio, a TV documentary soundtrack, clubs and other fine venues. She is a well-respected, warm, dynamic and inspiring educator, with vast knowledge of vocal techniques, and thirty years of teaching experience, spanning across most genres. She teaches beginners through professionals; youths and adults; as well as instructing voice students for Camden County Community College (Jazz and/or Classical) in her CMA studio, and is a voting member of the Grammy Association (NARAS) as well as a member of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing).

Kaylé graduated Summa Cum Laude from Temple University with a double major (BM) in both jazz vocal performance and composition/arranging.  While at Temple, she also studied classical voice techniques with Dr. Christine Anderson and later took additional credits in Speech Pathology from West Chester University.  As a result, Kaylé has a deep, seasoned and flexible knowledge of voice which she imparts generously to her students while carefully tailoring her approach to their individual needs.

A skilled arranger and composer, Kaylé is more than a singer: she is a complete musical package. Imaginative, versatile and eclectic, Kaylé has performed in settings ranging from classical, traditional jazz, blues and pop, through bop, free jazz and experimental music. She is a native New Yorker and began her career as a very young teen, singing blues and standards in the clubs of Greenwich Village.  Kaylé has studied composition and arranging privately with Grammy nominated composer Jim McNeely and Grammy winning world acclaimed composer Michael Abene, as well as having been a long-time member of the BMI Jazz Composers’ Workshop in New York City.  Three of her original compositions and two of her versions of Freddie Hubbard tunes have been published by Freddie Hubbard’s publishing company Hubtones and two of her versions of Herbie Hancock tunes have been published by Hancock Music. Her compositional skills have also garnered many awards in the jazz category of the Billboard Song Contest, including one major prize.

Originally from NYC, Kaylé’s Philadelphia regional work has included performances at many prominent area venues including Chris’ Jazz Cafe, The Painted Bride Art Center, The Academy of Music, two performances with The Network for New Music, Rutgers, Temple University, The Rotunda at University  of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia University concert performances, The World Café Live Philadelphia, the old Zanzibar Blue, as well as performances in NYC, various festivals and touring performances and a live radio broadcast on WRTI FM, Philadelphia of one of her (1996) performances at the old Blue Moon Jazz Café.  Kaylé has been teaching since 1983 and joined the CMA faculty in 1993.

ANDREW LAWSON – Studio Instructor
Voice – Andrew Lawson is a multifaceted musician and educator who’s been working in the field of music for 5 years now. Growing up in Philadelphia allowed Andrew many opportunities to learn; from jazz to classical, rock and folk, recording techniques and of course how to educate. Growing around so many awesome minds in the city of Philadelphia, allowed Andrew to see many different styles and approaches to educating.

Andrew started his education career at The Philadelphia Kimmel Center of Performing Arts. For 3 years, he cycled through many different schools in the Philadelphia area teaching music appreciation, theory, jazz history, guitar, Orff Instruments and more. This was a great opportunity to work with students of all demographics including ESL. During this time, Andrew’s goal was to learn how to best get students engaged, active and caring about music. As a teacher, one can make a student learn but true success is found when the student wants to learn.

During this time at the Kimmel Center, Andrew was also earning his degree at University of the Arts. UARTS provided a great opportunity to learn whatever was desired as opposed to being placed on a track with no opportunity to branch out. Here he met two very influential professors in terms of pursuing a vocal career; Justin Binek for Jazz studies and Paul Adkins for classical studies. With these two professors who are experts in their field, Andrew developed a great fusion of styles over his four years of Undergrad.

Andrew returned to UARTS for an additional year, to pursue a Masters Degree in Music Education. Education is such an integral part of his life and music in the world as a whole, earning a Masters Degree helped Andrew develop further and cement ideas and beliefs which he had been formulating years prior. This year as opposed to others allowed for Andrew to nurture deeper connections to his students. While at the Kimmel Center, he was Teaching Artist, maybe seeing a school 2 or 3 times a year. A majority of this year though was spent doing fieldwork/student teaching and teaching private lessons. The following summer after graduation, Andrew took on a long-term position at Play On, Philly! as a teaching artist, teaching Vocal, Music Theory and Musicianship.

Alongside of his education career, Andrew feels it’s very important to cultivate experiences in the world of performing. Bringing these experiences and stories to a classroom can really bring a new dynamic. Andrew has worked with professionals from all genres and styles. Such people Include; Questlove, Ben Folds, Ladysmith Black Mabazo, Philadelphia Orchestra, Andrea Bochelli and Christian McBride. Though Andrew is rooted in classical music, his interest and pursuits span far beyond that. This is also reflected in his teaching style and musical repertoire he brings to his students. It’s important for students to gain many experiences because everything cyclical and can bring a new approach to something familiar.

Janine Diaz - Voice LessonsJANINE DIAZ WHITT – Studio Instructor
Voice –Janine Diaz Whitt is a singer and voice teacher working in the tri-state area. She grew up in Tampa, Florida, and in the fall of 2003, she moved to Philadelphia to attend the University of the Arts. In 2007, she graduated first in her class within the university’s College of Performing Arts, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance. In 2008, she received her Master’s degree in Music Education. While attending UARTS she studied under Paul Adkins, Justin Binek, and Anne Sciolla. Janine enjoys the many types of music there are, and loves to be able to sing in not only different styles, but also different languages. Her experiences span the spectrum from musical theater, small jazz vocal ensemble, singer in a jazz trio/quartet, classical/opera singing, fronting a rock cover band, singing pop music, liturgical/church singing, studio recordings, and singing Hispanic music like salsa and Latin jazz. She is currently the bandleader of E-fusion Imagine – a band in EBE, which is one of the largest corporate band agencies in the tri-state area. She has sung with groups such as Ellas Y Amigos, Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, The UARTS Jazz Singers, and The UARTS Big Band.As an educator, Janine Diaz Whitt has been working as a private voice and beginner piano teacher since 2004. Her teaching experience includes working at AMLA (Association of Latin American Musicians), The Music Place, her own private voice studio, and The Conservatory of Musical Arts. Janine believes in finding out each student’s individual musical goals, and encouraging the students to reach those goals by giving them the tools they need to succeed. She rejoices in her students’ everyday victories, and is sincerely happy to be sharing the gift of music with everyone she works with.

Voice/Piano – .Jeffrey Wienand has been a teacher of voice and piano in the New Jersey area since 2012.  He has been studying music since he was eight years old and has earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in voice performance from Florida State University and has studied towards earning his doctorate in vocal pedagogy from the University of Miami.  Jeffrey is a classically trained baritone and has performed in many venues across the United States, including Carnegie Hall and the Gusman Center for Performing Arts.  He has performed as a soloist with the Miami Symphony Orchestra and has won many competitions in singing, including the National Association of Teachers of Singing award two years in a row.  He has performed numerous operatic roles, most notably Count Almaviva in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro, Figaro in The Barber of Seville, Sid in Albert Herring, and Escamillo in Carmen.  He has also worked with many notable musicains including Rene Flemming, Helen Donauth, Bobby McFerrin, and Marvin Hamlisch.

Jeffrey has been teaching voice and piano lessons since 2003.  While at the University of Miami Jeffrey taught a studio of undergraduate Music Theater and classical singers and also taught college courses in Vocal Techniques for non-music majors as well as courses in training Music education majors to teach voice.  Jeffrey has experience teaching voice in many styles of music, he teaches Classical, Music Theater, Jazz, Rock, Pop, and Commercial styles of voice.  He enjoys working with all ages and all skill levels.  He works to create a positive learning environment where students not only learn their craft and enjoy themselves, but also foster a lifelong relationship with music.
