Ian Macaulay is a guitarist, composer, and producer originally from Woonsocket, RI. Over the past 15 years, Ian has made a name for himself in the Philadelphia r&b and jazz scene, performing and recording with John Legend, Estelle, and Eric Roberson, as well as jazz artists Clark Terry, Ray Vega and Joe Lovano. Ian has also been teaching guitar, bass, music theory, and jazz improvisation for over 20 years. He is well versed in a variety of styles, including jazz, rock/pop, classical, blues, and more and has taught students of all levels and ages. He graduated from the jazz studies program at William Paterson University, one of the most prestigious jazz programs in the country, with a degree in jazz performance.

Recently, Ian was featured on Brent White’s album Broken Toy, which also featured pianist Orrin Evans and bassist Luques Curtis, as well as on drummer Wayne Smith, Jr’s soon to be released debut album, for which he also served as mixing engineer. Ian is also a member of the band Maiden Seoul, who just released their debut album, Cinemanic, in 2023. Another project, Breathing Ghosts, an ambient jazz duo project with Wayne Smith, Jr., is also set to be released in 2024.

In between maintaining a busy touring schedule, Ian is also getting ready to release his first record as a leader, which will show off his diverse range of influences, from jazz, to R&B, and progressive rock.
